Samsung Galaxy S Advance I9070 Network Problem




I recently purchased a brand new Samsung Galaxy S advance for INR. 19,500. The price was Rs. 23,000 a few weeks back and suddenly dropped to Rs. 19,500. So I grabbed this opporutnity to buy my first dual core processor Android phone and for the price I am paying, It was a pretty good deal.

My misery started from the first dayonwards, I was facing a horrible network problem. The phone won't even survive 5 hours with network signal.

 If I keep the phone idle in an area which shows full coverage, within few hours my phone will show a blocked sign instead of network signal. It gets fixed every time I switch off and switch on the phone. Sometimes i even have to take the battery out and place it back. I had to do it 4 or 5 times on the first day itself.

On the second day.I took it to the dealer and the sales rep said that the problem is with my sim card and my network provider (Idea).I believed them and tried replacing the sim with my Airtel sim (my office number) but no use.

On the third day, the shop salesman asked me to show it at the samsung service center. I asked him for a replacement as I had received a defective peice. But he said that thet are helpless and I need to complete some formalities at Samsung service center to get my handset replace with a new one.

So I visited Samsung service center and waited almost one hour to get to speak to a customer care executive who checked my phone and asked me to change my sim from 32k to 64k and the problem will be solved.
I visited my service provider and got my 32k sim card replaced with a 64k sim.. But network problem remained unchanged. I showed it again at Samsung service and they said they need to get the software updated. they made me wait another two hours (for God knows what) and finally gave me my mobile and assured that the problem is resolved. I was more than happy finally but before reaching back home, I lost the network signal again.

I was frustrated beyong words and rushed back to the Service station and asked them to replace the handset. After lots of arguments , they finally agreed to replace my handset. I got my handset replace with a brand new one. But guess what ? Even that too had a network problem.

Everyone at the samsung service knows that this model has some network issues but they pretend as if nothing is wrong with the handset and its a rare case. Instead of helping the customer, they will make u leave the place by giving some vage excuses.

If anybody is facing the same problem, dont waste your time trying to change the sim or network provider. The problem in the first place is with this handset model Samsung Galaxy S advance I9070. The best thing you can do is to replace the handset with a brand new one. (you might be lucky enough to get a non defective handset) or try to get a refund or sell off the handset for any price possible and go for some other model.

I had a very similar experience with my Samsung Galaxy S phone. It started giving network problems after a few weeks. I visited the service center many times and they would give me the same reasons - change your SIM, get 64K SIM etc. They updated the software, changed the network card, but no use.

Finally after 6 months of agony I complained and got a refund. I was stupid enough to assume it was just a defective piece. I went and bought the next model - Galaxy S Plus (I9001). The network problems started again after a few days and have just got worse since then.

I got my network card replaced, changed from Vodafone to Airtel, tried different settings, but no use. I had massive network issues with Vodafone. Since I migrated to Airtel the network problems are lesser, but still not good enough. My calls still drop, the signal would suddenly become zero, the other party cannot hear what I say, the voice gets garbled etc.

Samsung makes junk phones. The only reason their phones sell is because of looks and the Android platform. It is a cheap piece of crap. What good is a phone if all you can do is play games and install apps!!. I'll never buy any Samsung product again. Have decided to get rid of this junk and go for a Nokia Lumia instead.

I was a fan of samsung until i bought this device.. Once i got it replaced I exchanged it in the same phone at the same shop itself.. I wanted to by a Galaxy SII for 28k and i had money for it.. but I hate samsung to the core now..

So i bought a Sony Xperia P for 25k.. the display and looks of Xperia P is no where close to Samsung SII but I have peace of Mind and a great reliable device..

after searching a lot i finally decided to buy galaxy s adavance..and wtf..web is full of complaining about it.

i am not going to buy it. buying faulty device for 19k, i would rather buy s2

s2 is a very good option.. but dont even go for S advance.. I'd also suggest u to go for some other brands like HTC or Sony.. s2 is already an old model..

Literally this phone dont have any problems coz it only have problem in india but in other countries dunno if it have, A Senior member of Xda-Developers say these

"Ok guys..what I'm writing plz copy and paste to every blog you know of s advance so that people come to know the reality of network error...first of all...there's no network error on this phone...no come to the topic why we get network error than...ok..in India we have 2 types of network one Gsm and one cdma...and those guys who used Android before..and flashed different countries baseband.remember we had new options in network...not cdma or Gsm we had use 2g only...but this phone with Indian baseband has cdma or Gsm...now we all know cdma service like reliance tata indicom and all..if you use that than put phone on cdma mode...otherwise put on Gsm mode..if you using 3g on Gsm or cdma doesn't matter...add some guy asked me that he using 3g so he put it on auto mode...in auto mode your phone connects to Gsm and calls again after call it's search for both cdma and Gsm network but your sin doesn't support cdma bands so network error again now your phone tries for Gsm and locks your phone...but after some time again it searches for cdma...and of you want to check your phone than put your phone only on cdma mode and try to call...you'll get error msg...network not found...guys relax there's no bug..it's just we were confused...and there's lack of communication between the Korean company with real developers and Samsung care..idiots...actually not there fault...they are just dummies ...they've been told to format flash and of world good otherwise send to head office...do guys all doubts clear..and the who sold there phones...the phone wasn't meant for you and kindly mail to that guy who's signing the refund in Samsung that he should communicate with Korean devs and try to learn what's the real problem and we're it is....guys I guess I I've cleared all doubts...regarding network error...which wasn't there...keep smiling keep enjoying the beautiful gift of life... "

So I think it only had a problem in india

Probable solution to signal dropping in Samsung Galaxy S Advance.
Select under Settings -> Wireless and Network -> Mobile Networks -> Network Mode -> GSM only. (Not Auto mode)
Furhter, under the same path, it may further help to specifically select your Network Operator.

My Galaxy S advance was bought in India. It was later updated to the latest Jelly Bean OS via samsung kies installed on computer.

Like quite a few people mentioned here, the solution seems to be very simple. Just a matter of selecting the correct settings.

In the settings when I selected " GSM ONLY " and then selected my mobile network MANUALLY , it started working again and I could make and receive calls without any problems.

Somehow I am not able to connect to the Internet. I will have to figure out what the problem could be.

I am using S3 and want to upgrade directly to S5. samsung galaxy

Great post buddy. I am having the same network issue in my s advance since a month. It worked fine for first 3 months. Now i get a network blocked symbol when i move to some areas. I tried switching off the phone, removed the battery & sim, switched to GSM & turned off the GPRS connection and did all the possible things but still the problem persists. The Sim(Airtel sim) works fine in other mobiles so the problem is with the S ADVANCE.. :-/

People are getting furious that their NOTE 2 did not get the kitkat update and I’m still waiting for the official kitkat update for my Note 3.Galaxy s5 update
